Land Rover North Haven | EV and PHEV Guide
In the U.S., Land Rover offers plug-in hybrid (PHEV) versions of the Range Rover and the Range Rover Sport. Each pairs a turbocharged six-cylinder engine with an electric motor and can drive up to 50 to 51 miles on electricity alone, based on EPA estimates.

Land Rover's U.S. plug-in hybrids are the Range Rover P550e and the Range Rover Sport, offered as the P460e and P550e. All three use a 3.0-liter turbocharged inline-six with an electric motor and a 38.2 kWh battery. Land Rover quotes EPA-estimated electric range of up to 50 miles for the Range Rover and up to 51 miles for the Range Rover Sport. A fully electric Range Rover Electric has also been announced for the 2027 model year.
PHEV stands for plug-in hybrid electric vehicle: you charge the battery from a plug, drive on electricity for shorter trips, and the gas engine is there for longer ones.
| Model | Powertrain | Output | EPA electric range | Battery |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Range Rover P550e | 3.0L turbocharged inline-six + electric motor | 543 hp | Up to 50 miles | 38.2 kWh |
| Range Rover Sport P460e | 3.0L turbocharged inline-six + electric motor | 454 hp, 487 lb-ft | Up to 51 miles | 38.2 kWh |
| Range Rover Sport P550e | 3.0L turbocharged inline-six + electric motor | 543 hp, 590 lb-ft | Up to 51 miles | 38.2 kWh |

You choose how much to rely on electricity. Land Rover's PHEVs offer these modes and functions:
The default. The vehicle automatically blends the gas engine and electric motor to deliver the power you need.
Selected with a console button, EV mode maximizes electric driving. The gas engine starts automatically if you ask for more power than electricity alone can supply.
Holds the battery at a level you choose so you can save quiet electric driving for later in a trip.
Enter a destination in the navigation and the system uses the road ahead to decide when to use electricity and when to use gas.
Regenerative braking recovers energy whenever you lift off the accelerator or brake, adding charge back to the battery in every mode.
Range Rover plug-in hybrids use a CCS charging inlet, the standard connector at most U.S. public chargers.
| Charging type | Where | Maximum rate |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 | Household outlet with the domestic charging cable | Slowest option, best for topping up |
| Level 2 AC | Home wall box or public AC charger | Up to 7 kW |
| DC rapid | Public DC fast chargers on selected models | Up to 50 kW |
The Land Rover Remote app lets you check charging status and set departure timers from your phone.
Cold weather temporarily reduces electric range for every battery-powered vehicle, mainly because the battery works less efficiently and heating the cabin uses energy. Published studies put the typical loss at around 20% at freezing temperatures, and more when the heater runs hard in deeper cold.
A plug-in hybrid has an advantage here: when the battery runs low, the gas engine takes over, so a cold morning never leaves you without range. Land Rover recommends keeping the vehicle plugged in at home so its thermal management system can keep the battery at a healthy temperature, and preconditioning the cabin while it is still plugged in.
Land Rover offers mild hybrid (MHEV) Range Rover models that do not need to be plugged in.
Battery warranty: Land Rover covers the high-voltage traction battery on 2027 model-year plug-in hybrids for 8 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Coverage for earlier model years may differ, so ask us to confirm the terms for a specific vehicle.

Yes, on selected models. The CCS inlet accepts DC rapid charging at up to 50 kW, and AC charging at up to 7 kW.
Electric range drops in the cold, but the gas engine takes over when the battery runs low. See our PHEV range and winter performance matrix for estimated range at different temperatures.
